Unequal Equality: The facade of reservation system in India.

When I think about reservation 'Poona Pact' agreement strikes my mind. Basically, it was an agreement signed in the presence of B.R.Ambedkar and Gandhi Ji , both revolutionaries of contemporary India. The highlight of this agreement was that it ensured the Dalits(low caste) get reserved seats in legislatures for equal representation and participation. The pact was signed in 1932, times have changed so have people and their lives.
Reservation system was introduced in India  mainly because of below mentioned reasons:
•To curb historic repression.
•To eradicate inequality/discrimination faced.
•To stand by and promise right to equality as stated in the constitution of India.
All these were the scenarios decades ago. But the current situation breaks my heart. In today's India general category have become Dalits in the real sense without the official 'certificate'.
In the field of higher education, profession and politics why the general category is under this constantly lurking stress and youths commit suicide. It's for the very fact that these sectors blatantly ignore the virtue of "MERIT".
I'll just state a simple instance of this rigged system: IIM's the premier institutes for management studies are under the government of India and exercise the reservation system. As the cut-offs of these institutions aren't openly declared , in 2013 a clever man filed a RTI (right to information) request which revealed that for a general candidate cut off was 96 percentile or  above and the same for ST/SC/PWD(lower class) was a merely 50-60 percentile. This clearly implies that if a lower class candidate just fills his/her name in the exam sheet they may get a call from IIMs where a general category candidate strives and get 90 percentile is rejected.

This example is just a tiny speck on a brutally flawed system.
Here are some more facts and figures:
1. Reservation is misused as an excuse by 49 of 50 applicants to JEE who failed to clear the exam.
2. Reservation is misused as an excuse for leaving the country for selfish motives - when our public sector companies were starving for quality talent.
3. Reservation is misused as an excuse for lack of development in India when 70% of top bureaucracy in 2014 are still upper-caste.
4. Reservation is misused as an excuse to isolate & de-moralize hardworking sc/st students.
5. Reservation is misused to filter out qualified candidates from high-paying private sector jobs - saying anyway they get a job in government.
6. Reservation is misused in quora for demeaning other castes with internet memes, caste-ist jokes, and plain abuse.
7. Reservation is misused to showcase one's ignorance of social reality in  India by quoting unverifiable personal anecdotes.
It's true that reservations open new avenues for the lower strata to build a better future, reduces socio-economic disparities and balances the society to a minor degree. On the flipside is it justified that reservation supersedes a meritorious candidate just to accommodate a backward class? Reservations leads to deprived job/education opportunity to a much more qualified person and this further affects the overall development of the country, impacts productivity and leads to loss/transfer of proficient talent.
In my opinion, this system is played like a wild card by the politicians just to pool in votes but in the midst of all this, they fail to see the bigger picture that how adversely is this affecting the nation. Reservations in India have become more of ignoring people with true potential and instead of giving the opportunity to those on the basis of caste rather than MERIT. What kind of equality does this system serve? In fact, the system contradicts itself is an irony.
To conclude with I'd just request my readers and fellow Indians that don't get offended by this viewpoint of mine rather uplift yourself on the virtue of your values and caliber. Don't hide behind the facade of caste, creed or religion and make them a shortcut for success. Because in the end when it all boils down to performing your duties it is your self-worth and merit that matters and makes India a progressive nation.
